چکیده
We have developed a novel imaging instrument, the volume holographic telescope, which is capable of returning high-resolution depth information about remote objects. We present a theoretical analysis of the instrument's performance and an experimental demonstration with a microfabricated object.

Volume phase holographic grating performance on the VIRUS-P instrument
The Visible Integral-field Replicable Unit Spectrograph Prototype (VIRUS-P) has been in operation on the Harlan J Smith 2.7m Telescope at McDonald Observatory since October of 2006. The prototype was created to test the design and science capabilities of the full VIRUS instrument, wherein 150 copies of the spectrograph will be installed on the Hobby Eberly Telescope (HET). We here discuss the s...
متن کاملShared Aperture Diffractive Optical Element (ShADOE) Multiplexed Telescope
The Shared Aperture Diffractive Optical Element (ShADOE) is an Advanced Component Technology program to demonstrate the feasibility of combining several holographic optical elements (HOEs) into a single optic for use as the primary optic of a scanning telescope. The HOEs diffract the beam at a fixed elevation angle, nominally 30 to 55 degrees, but with the azimuthal pointing direction of each i...
متن کاملInstrumentation Plans for the Anglo-australian Observatory
Plans for future instrumentation for the Anglo-Australian Telescope are described. Current projects for the AAT include the IRIS-2 infrared camera and spectrometer, and a new controller system to be used with the IR detector and CCDs. The Six Degree Field (6dF) bre spectroscopy system is being developed for the Schmidt telescope, following on from the successful development of 2dF for the AAT. ...
متن کاملHolographically corrected telescope for high-bandwidth optical communications.
We present a design for an optical data communications receiver-transmitter pair based on the holographic correction of a large diameter, poor-quality, reflecting primary mirror. The telescope has a narrow bandwidth (<0.1 nm) with good signal frequency isolation (>60 dB) and is scalable to meter-class apertures. We demonstrate the correction of a reflector telescope with over 2000 waves of aber...
متن کاملHubble Meets Planck: a Cosmic Peek at Quantum Foam
If spacetime undergoes quantum fluctuations, an electromagnetic wavefront will acquire uncertainties in direction as well as phase as it propagates through spacetime. These uncertainties can show up in interferometric observations of distant quasars as a decreased fringe visibility. The Very Large Telescope and Keck interferometers may be on the verge of probing spacetime fluctuations which, we...
